Stretchy wraps and carriers

A dad carries his newborn in a stretchy Moby wrap
Stretchy wraps and other stretchy carriers are very good for use with newborns, as they can be pretied, allowing the wearer to pop the baby in and out. A good stretchy moulds to the baby's shape, keeping it cocooned and secure.

The length of material and tying method can sometimes look a little daunting, but once you've done it a couple of times you'll be a pro. If you're stuck, just ask us for help at a meet or on Facebook.

As your baby gets heavier, you'll find that a stretchy wrap becomes less comfortable and digs into your shoulders. Time to move on to a more structured carrier, like a full buckle or mei tai, or a woven wrap. Get to a sling meet and try some out!

Popular brands of stretchy wrap include Moby, Kari-Me, Close Caboo, Victoria Sling Lady, Je Porte Mon Bébé, Calin Bleu microfleece, Boba wrap, and more.

Woven wraps

A woven wrap is a length of cloth, measuring anything from 2m up to about 5m long. Wraps have the steepest learning curve of any sling, but are very versatile and can be used to carry any age of child, on the wearer's front, hip or back.

Wraps come in a dazzling array of fabrics, colours and patterns, and if you get into wrapping you're sure to find one that you fall in love with.
